New Year Reflections

It’s that time of year when I do my “Possibilities” list. I’ve shared this before, but I break it down into categories: Spiritual, Family, Work, Home Improvements, Financial and Personal. At the end is a page where I list the books I read during the year, along with what kind – fiction, non-fiction, devotionals, etc. At the end of the year, I go through my possibilities to see if I followed through. (It helps to check the list several times during the year to remember what I intended to do.)

I’ll share a few.

Spiritual – I love the One Year Bible, but this year I want to focus on the New Testament. I listened to David Jeremiah one morning and he encouraged people to write out books of the Bible. A few scriptures at a time. I’ve found doing this slows me down and allows God’s Word to sink in. There’s a difference between reading and pondering.

Family – Getting together is getting harder as children and then grandchildren grow up, join the military, go off to college, get married, have families, move where their jobs take them. Rick and I feel the loss. The quest is to find ways to stay in touch and continue being part of one another’s lives no matter where we are or what time zone. It’ll mean learning new ways of communication for us non-techies.

Work – Easy! Finish the book! Well, not always that easy…
Home Improvements – It’s less about home improvements now than maintenance and figuring out how to manage a small vineyard (100 vines). As I get older, it gets harder – and the crop gets bigger. Any ideas?

Financial – God always receives the first fruits. He should. Everything we have comes from Him. And it’s exciting to join in His work – whether it’s here or abroad. We must be wise in where we invest God’s money. (Consider www.redeeminglovesanctuary.org)

Personal – I used to put “lose weight” in this category. Now that I’m in my seventies, I figure why bother! Now it’s how many lunches with friends we can squeeze into a year. And I will have dessert first!

Have a Happy New Year and a full and exciting 2024!
