Taxes

No one likes paying taxes, but they’re necessary to keep the country going.   However, the last thing we want to see is a bunch of IRS workers doing line dances and dressing up as Trekkies on  taxpayer money at conferences that tally up to $50M.  And we don’t want to hear the IRS targeting any group, be it conservative, religious or liberal.  Targeting anyone is not what our country is all about, or wasn’t until recently.  We don’t want a government that behaves like a kingdom.

Here’s my solution, not that anyone will listen.

Abolish the current tax system.  Dump the whole thing.  Hit the reset button.  Replace it with a flat 10% tax on ALL citizens above poverty level.  Taxes would be taken directly from paychecks (like Social Security).  No forms to fill out at the end of the year.   On top of the 10% flat tax, have a 2% tax on everything sold in the U.S.A.  Everything.  That way, everyone pays, even the illegal aliens, drug dealers, welfare recipients.  This 2% tax would be designated to pay off our national debt.

With a simple system, we the people can go about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  We won’t have to hire people to figure out the latest tax law or find tax shelters (because there won’t be any).  The rich will pay more because the rich make more and buy more.  IMHO, it’s important for everyone to put into the common pot for the common good.

To save more money, do away with the penny which costs more to make than it’s worth, and ditto the dollar.  Go to a two dollar coin.  Oh, I know. Americans balked over Susan B. Anthony and Sacajawea dollar coins.  I, for one, thought they were too cool to spend and collected them.  But times change, so should non-profitable instruments which cost more to print than they’re worth.
