Lessons from Noah

One of my friends sent me an email with “Everything I need to know, I learned from Noah’s Ark”, the title of which was probably inspired by “Everything I needed to know, I learned in kindergarten.”  What I love about the list of the anonymous author is how many things you can learn from one Bible story.

Don’t miss the boat.

Remember that we are all in the same boat.

Plan ahead.  It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.

Stay fit.  When you’re old, God may still ask     you to do something really BIG!

Don’t listen to grumblers; just get on with the job that needs to be done.

Build your future on high ground.

For safety’s sake, travel in pairs.

Speed isn’t always an advantage. The sloths      were on board with the cheetahs.

When you’re stressed, float awhile.

Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs;    the Titanic by professionals.

No matter the storm, when you are with God,    There is always a rainbow waiting.

Other lessons occur to me:

God hated sin enough to flood the earth.

Though God has patience, He says a day of judgment will come.

God offers salvation to all, but He sets the standard for that gift: a sinless life.

Without Jesus, the door into heaven is locked just like the door into the ark.  With Him, we are guaranteed entry.

I wonder what all those people were thinking when the first drops of rain fell on the earth – and didn’t stop for forty days.  What’s this?!  They had never seen rain before.   Now, they had to watch puddles become ever-widening rivers washing homes and lives away, slicing deep grand canyons until the earth was completely beneath the floodwater.  Did they before drowning think about the choices they had made?

We are all sinners, all deserving of judgment, death and hell.  I choose to take God at His Word and believe Jesus is the only way to salvation.   Jesus is my ark.  Becoming a Christian isn’t a matter of enhancing your life on earth.  It is a life and death decision.  I want to live, forever, in His Presence.   And I can because Jesus makes it possible.
