Creative People

One of my favorite things to do at the County Fair each year is wander slowly through the buildings displaying arts and crafts, landscape design and new or improved inventions.  I’m always amazed at the creativity and ingenuity of people.  Ornate, hand-made clocks, oil and watercolor paintings, photography, embroidery, quilting, rug making, needlepoint so fine it looks like a photograph, bread-cake-cookie baking, wood carving, poetry by young and old framed for our delight, canning, gutter guards, new and improved vacuum cleaners, chairs that massage you while you sit, new and better Tupperware, fudge in a dozen flavors(!) …

People are so creative. Think about what’s in your home.  Someone designed the chair you’re sitting in, the computer you’re using, the carpeting, the lighting system, the plumbing.  None of it was by accident.  Someone designed the house you live in, the car you drive, the roads you drive on and the signs you should obey.  Red for stop, green for go, yellow for drive faster…oops.  Yellow for caution, conditions are changing.

Perhaps our desire to create comes from being designed by a creative God.  Just look around at all the amazing plants and animals, birds and insects, reptiles and amphibians, not to mention the systems we take for granted every day of our lives.  The sun “comes up” and “goes down” every day.  The tides roll in and out.  The seasons come and go.  Nothing is by accident.  Everything is complex when/if you look closely.

Bats have sonar capabilities. Honeybees dance a map so other hive members can locate the best pollen to benefit all.  Monarch butterflies can navigate a two-thousand-mile journey to mate.   Birds, mammals and fish migrate thousands of miles each year.  The oceans and air currents circulate around the earth.  Our earth is part of a solar system.  The stars are fixed in space, tools of navigation. You can’t look anywhere and not see an amazing system or thing that boggles the mind.

Think of the complexity of our bodies.  We have eleven systems; integumentary, muscular, skeletal nervous, circulatory, lymphatic, endocrine, urinary/excretory, reproductive, and digestive — each with a specific purpose, and working interdependently with the others so that a human being can survive and thrive.  And animals, plants, birds, reptiles, all those living creatures we see around us, or in zoos or in television documentaries have inter-functioning systems as well.

People are creative.  Many create ideas.  Here’s one for the books:  mankind somehow crawled up out of some primordial soup onto land and then slowly evolved over millions upon millions of years into what we are today.  It takes a very creative mind and blind faith to wrap itself around that.
